Activities

Knowing where to start and how to get to know your students can be a challenge in the beginning of the school year. Participating in a culturally responsive inquiry team and working with other teachers I was able to learn about different activities to help me get to know my students, activities that actually work. I have created a link below of the activities and lesson plans along with directions and samples.

Towards the end of the school year my students had a discussion among themselves about the different cultures that were in the room. Needless to say they did not know too much about each other and were assuming things about each other's culture. They assumed what the people from these cultures wear, eat, the animals that live in a certain country even the colors of the flags were up for debate with my students. So how did I solve this issue? I created lessons where my students were the teachers and students. They researched a culture other than their own, created flags, pictures, and a presentation for their peers.
